Chapel Renovation

November 9, 2016 Update

Thanks to all who participated in our gathering on October 23. For those unable to attend, the committee shared the foundational principles it has used to discern how this sacred space can be more welcoming and more deeply reflect who we are as a community.

Our Hope UCC Statement of Welcome and Mission
No matter where you are on life’s journey, you are invited to enter the big red doors of Hope United Church of Christ. We are an open and affirming congregation. We believe that every person is a child of God and all are welcome regardless of race, economic background, marital status, gender or sexual orientation, age, physical or mental ability, nationality or faith history. It is our mission, inspired by God’s Holy Spirit, to engage persons in living out the gospel of Jesus Christ. Come, for all things are ready.

The Guiding Principle of Renovation
The finest elements, those that bear the weight of the sacred, become the foundation for transformation of the sacred space, nurturing and reflecting a theology that will carry the community of faith into the tomorrows of many years.

The Chapel Renovation Committee’s Developed Mission Statement
It is our mission to share a space that nurtures and celebrates sacred experiences.

Participants were invited to reflect upon and share their thoughts on what makes a space welcoming, what hinders a sense of welcome, and what makes a space sacred. We thank all for their insights, which will assist the committee in its final plans.

There will be one more opportunity to gather insights from the congregation: Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 12-1:30 pm. This experience will be in a charrette format, which is a collaborative brainstorming session. A sign-up sheet with 24 openings will be posted in December. As with the first meeting, it is vital that you sign up in advance so the committee can plan appropriately. If more than 24 wish to attend, a second meeting can be arranged.
