2019 Gateway ONA PrideFest Weekend
Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30

Gateway-ONA-Logo-webGateway ONA is a group representing the 23 St. Louis metro area United Church of Christ congregations that have formally approved their “Open and Affirming” stance by publicly declaring that persons of all orientations are welcome in full life and ministry of the church. Gateway ONA meets monthly at Eden Seminary and also encourages and welcomes participation from clergy and members from all area UCC congregations as well as Eden faculty and students. This year’s PrideFest weekend will be held June 29 and 30 at Soldier’s Memorial Park in Downtown St. Louis City. There are two ways for Hope UCC to be involved in this event:

  1. PrideFest Booth
We have a prime booth spot on the festival grounds. The Gateway ONA booth features literature from each
of the UCC congregations, family activities and free water and candy for PrideFest attendees. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Volunteers field questions about the United Church of Christ faith. Each year booth volunteers have many positive conversations with people searching for a church home – especially those who have been made to feel unwelcome in houses of faith due to their sexual orientation.

  2. PrideFest Parade
The PrideFest Parade is held Sunday morning of PrideFest weekend and features floats and walking units
from area organizations and corporations. In 2017, 300,000 people attended PrideFest weekend; it was the largest parade in our history. In 2018 great success continued with close to 300,000 in attendance. The Gateway ONA group is an impressive walking unit as each member has different colored rainbow comma T-shirts that draw attention and initiate conversations. Rainbow comma T-shirts are available year-round thru the Gateway Open & Affirming website.

If you are interested in taking a shift as a booth volunteer, would like to walk in the parade, or would like to order
a rainbow comma T-shirt, please contact the church office for more details.
