2018 Summer Food Drive

Memorial Day through Labor Day

September 12, 2018 Update
On behalf of the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the families you’ve helped feed,
we would like to thank Hope United Church of Christ for your food donation of 462 lbs.
The food you collected will provide 378 meals to those in need!

Hope Outreach Ministry joins the St. Louis Area Foodbank in thanking everyone who donated
to our annual summer red barrel giving! 1 in 6 people in the bi-state region are in need of food assistance.
At 31%, children make up the largest segment of individuals needing food assistance from the Foodbank.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is the region’s largest nonprofit food distribution center dedicated to
feeding those in need. The St. Louis Area Foodbank distributes food to more than 500 area food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other feeding programs throughout 26 area counties (14 in MO/12 in IL).

Food_Drive_Image In our church’s continuing effort to battle poverty, the Outreach Ministry would like to invite the congregation to participate in our summer giving project. We will collect and give food to The St. Louis Area Foodbank which then will distribute the food to food banks in St. Louis City and 26 area counties, including St. Louis County.

We will kick off this mission on May 27 and it will culminate on September 2. Each Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day non-perishable items can be donated. Please bring items to church each Sunday and place them in the big red barrels located in the narthex, the chapel and the sanctuary. Our goal is to help more families this year by donating 1,000 pounds of nonperishable food and other items.

While almost any nonperishable item is appreciated, there are some types of items that allow food pantries and other agency partners to best meet clients’ nutritional and household needs. Below is the St. Louis Area Foodbank’s suggested list of items to donate and the suggested dates to bring them to church. Please consider low sugar and low sodium versions of these items. If you don’t have the suggested item for a particular Sunday, but still want to participate, it’s OK to bring one of the suggested items from a different week. Thank you for your support of Hope’s church-wide mission project!
