I have worked in communications at Episcopal churches and the St. Louis Public Library. I have three adult children: Chloe (28), Ethan (24), and Brandon (21). My husband is Carlos. We have two dogs: Gino, a Mini Australian Shepherd, and Frank, our Kelpie/Border Collie. Also, Rocco (Gino’s brother) is often with us.

I am in the office on Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sara Karcher, Coordinator of Youth and Children’s Ministries

Sara Karcher has been a member of Hope since 2011. She currently teaches Sunday school, directs VBS and has served as Hope’s Coordinator of Youth and Children’s ministry since February 2018. She is also a full time Special Education teacher at a charter school in St. Louis city. Sara is married to her husband Andy and they have three children: Alice, Ben and Charlie who keep them very busy!

Jim Threlkeld, Director of Music

Jim has served as Director of Music and Organist at Hope United Church of Christ since 1997 and has served in church music for 56 years.

He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Southwest Baptist University in Boliver, MO and taught elementary music several years in public schools.

Jim is a member of the American Guild of Organists and The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers. In addition to his responsibilities as organist, Jim directs the Adult Chancel Choir and the Chancel Handbell Choir.

Laren Loveless, Music Director

Laren is a passionate educator, musician, and life coach
who loves bringing people together through the power of music. Known for his playful and engaging teaching style, Laren loves getting parents involved in class—whether it’s dancing, singing, or even dressing up in costumes. With over 15 years of experience teaching children and adults, he’s a true modern-day Mr. Rogers: fun, empathetic, and inspiring.

Laren and his wife Aimee, a dedicated educator with nearly 16 years of experience, share a passion for connecting with their community through music and education. Together, they’ve taught in Tanzania, Africa, and backpacked through Thailand, weaving their love of travel and world culture into their work.

A proud dad to Lennon (6.5), Lilia (3), and Leo (10 months), Laren often has his kids dancing, snacking, and showing off their big feelings in his classes. After 9 years teaching music at City Academy, an independent grade school in North City, he decided to pursue Music and Me full-time. This year, he also becoming a certified life coach, further expanding his passion for helping others grow.

When he’s not leading music classes or spending time with his family, Laren enjoys yoga, meditation, music documentaries, and late-night runs around Francis Park.

Ethan Hale, Weekday Building Care
