Our heritage is born out of hope! Hope Church is a local congregation of the United Church of Christ denomination. Well-named as our community looked to hope in God amidst the fears of World War II, it was chartered in 1944 as one of four churches around Francis Park. We continue to live in that hope! We hope for a world where all people are treated equally as children of God. Grounded in tradition and open to a new future, we hope to be a community where we nurture each other in faith and share the good news of the gospel of Jesus as we seek justice well beyond the walls of our church.

We are an intergenerational community, from infants to those nearly centenarians! Members live in the neighborhood and beyond, some close enough to walk and others committed to driving a half-hour or more to be a part of our community.

Hope UCC is proudly an Open and Affirming Congregation (ONA).

This is a special designation in our denomination that indicates our church emphasizes our full welcome and support of those in the LGBTQ+ community. We recognize that many in this community have felt rejected by some churches, and we want all to know that such prejudice is against our understanding that God has created us all in God’s image and loves us and celebrates our diversity. We have an ongoing “Open and Affirming” ministry that seeks to advocate and educate the congregation and wider community in this way. We participate each year in St. Louis’ PrideFest Weekend and parade as part of the local UCC “Gateway Open and Affirming” ministry which is comprised of all the UCC churches in the area that have this designation.
